(October 7.1959 – February 3. 2012)

Dawn Childers 52, of Imlay City passed away suddenly February 3, 2012 at home. Dawn Marie Sutherby was born October 7, 1959 in Almont. She was the daughter of Donald and Joyce SutherbyShe grew up in Imlay City and graduated from Imlay City High School, class of 1977. She went to St. Clair County Community College for 1 year. She married Willie Childers on June 23, 1979 in Almont. She worked For 7+ years as the Imlay Township Clerk. She was the Imlay City School Equestrian Team Assistant Coach. She was a Title I Aide at Borland Road School for special needs children. She was a member of the Imlay City United Methodist Church, Imlay City 4-H for 34 years working with the Adopt-a-Family Program, Michigan Township Clerks Association, and the Michigan Municipal League. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, swimming, cooking (she catered everyone’s events), and sewing (she even sewed the ICHS Equestrian Team jackets). She is survived by her husband: Willie Childers of Imlay City; son: Luke (Ashley) Childers of Imlay City; daughter: Tiffany (John) Howell of North Branch; 2 grandchildren: Shelby Howell and Andrew John “A.J.” Howell and expecting Jacob William Howell; parents: Donald and Joyce Sutherby of Imlay City; father-in-law: Porter Childers Sr. of Imlay City; sister: Connie (Gary) Bidoul of Deckerville; sister-in-law: Cathy Greenia of Emmett; 3 brother-in-laws: Porter “Junior” (Kathy) Childers of Imlay City, Robert Childers of Imlay City, and Jim Arnold of Imlay City; and nieces and nephews: Adam (Joy), Zack, Nate, Katie, Derek, Hayley, Miranda, Adrianna, Kristal, Shawn, Stefanie, Traci, and Angie. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law: Virginia Childers, brother-in-law: Scott Greenia, and sister-in-law: Reba Arnold. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. February 8, 2012 at the West Goodland United Methodist Church. Reverend Dianna Rees, pastor of the Imlay City United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Imlay Township Cemetery. The family will be available for visiting 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 06, 2012 and 1-5 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home – Imlay City.   • Winter Tax bills are scheduled to be mailed out on December 1, 2011. If you have a mortgage or escrow company and receive a bill yourself, please forward the bill to your mortgage company as this means that they did not request that a bill be sent to them. Taxes are due and payable from December 1, 2011 to February 29, 2012. Taxes will be turned over as delinquent on March 1, 2012.
 
  • It is now possible to pay your property taxes by credit card. The payments can be made online to officialpayments.com or over the phone by dialing 1-800-272-9829. A handling fee of 3% along with your tax amount will appear on your next credit card statement. Please use the jurisdiction code #7083 to insure that your payment is correctly applied. When your payment is credited to our bank account (this is done on a daily basis) you will receive a receipt from the Township.
 
  • The Imlay Township Board meets the first and third Wednesday of each month. The first Wednesday is a work session for the Board to work on special projects such as policies, ordinances, and contracts; while the third Wednesday meeting is the regular meeting at which decisions are made regarding the works of the Township. Each meeting begins at 7:30pm. Occasionally during the year, meetings are changed due to elections or Board of Review meetings or holidays.
